PROGRAM MANAGER - JOB OPENING

 A part-time Program Manager is needed for a new Youth Orchestra program in Trenton. This El Sistema-inspired program is a partnership between the Trenton Community Music School and the Trenton Public Schools. Inspired by the Venezuelan El Sistema program, the program provides free, high quality music education and performance opportunities for young people in Trenton and recognizes the power of community music-making to affect positive social development.

 The program was launched with a 16-week pilot program at the Grant Elementary School in 2014-15, and is being continued with a full-year program for 2015-16. Our fourth-grade string ensemble will include approximately 20 students, and we are awaiting confirmation of additional funding to allow another incoming ensemble of third graders. Instruction in violin, viola, cello and creative musicianship will be offered.  The after-school program will work in cooperation with the in-school strings program.  We seek a manager who will assist with student registration in the fall, supervise and support the faculty, assist with classroom management, run weekly staff meetings, and communicate regularly with the Community Partnerships Director.

Position:  El Sistema Trenton Program Manager

 Hours: October 2015 – June 2016, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3:00-6:00, plus occasional Saturdays and performance days, and the hours necessary to complete preparatory administrative work; we estimate an average workload of 12-14 hours per week.

 Pay: $19,200

 Duties:

  • Attend all after-school sessions, once-per-month Saturday and program rehearsals and performances, staff meetings and professional development sessions
  • Assist with registration of participating students/families
  • Assist with distribution and collection of instruments
  • Trouble shoot during program sessions; report problems to Community Partnerships Director
  • Help to arrange transportation, performances and related program details
  • Run weekly staff meetings
  • Contribute to Trenton Community Music School social media sites
  • Prepare and supervise staff timesheets
  • Assist with student discipline procedures, and cultivate a community environment which supports the wellbeing of every student
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Experience (2+ years) working with teachers and students in a school and/or afterschool setting
  • Basic understanding of school culture, social justice and working with youth
  • Ability to inspire, work with and mentor both youth and adults
  • Interest in using arts as a form of social development
  • Availability for after-school sessions and occasional Saturday rehearsal and performance dates
  • Out-going, warm and friendly demeanor with a love of children and respect for family dynamics in a diverse community
  • Administrative experience keeping records, and comfort with learning new software
  • Good organizational and communication skills
  • Flexibility, sense of humor, and ability to adapt to unanticipated situations
  • Experience working with El Sistema model preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with the Trenton community highly desirable
  • Social media skills a plus

Position:  Teacher of Instrumental Music (Strings), Grades 3-5

Part-Time (40% contract) 

Description:

Princeton Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and energetic teacher to provide additional instruction for our growing elementary strings program.  This individual will work in collaboration with our current strings teacher to support the musical development of our students at Johnson Park and Littlebrook Schools.  We are seeking someone who is available to teach two days per week in a small group lesson environment.  Each year, the string students from all four elementary schools combine to perform in a district-wide concert.  This program is part of a nationally recognized music department.

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS 

2015/2016 ANTICIPATED POSITION AVAILABLE


The Montgomery Township School District has a full time middle school band position available for next year. The successful candidate will conduct 2 sections of 8th grade band as well as teach 3 sections of 7th grade band lessons. Our 7th and 8th grade bands meet every other day as regularly scheduled classes for 82 minutes and are team-taught. There are 200 students in the program hoping we find an amazing teacher!! People with experience are highly encouraged to apply as our district is willing to negotiate starting salaries. More details can be found in the attached posting. Our current 8th grade band director will be leaving us after 10 fantastic years to become the supervisor of music and art in the Bridgewater Raritan Township School District. Congrats to him!

The successful candidate will be the lead teacher for the 7th grade and 8th grade choirs as well as the team-teacher for the high school vocal music program. Each of these classes meets every other day for 82 minutes. The vocal music program is team taught to allow for sectionals, lessons, accompaniment, and proper assessment.

Specific responsibilities and qualifications include:

  • Planning for and teaching the 7th and 8th grade choir classes
  • Collaborating with a team teacher to plan for chamber ensembles, lessons, sectionals, and assessment
  • Team teaching and assisting with the high school concert choir, chorale, and chamber choir
  • Knowledge of intermediate and advanced middle school choir repertoire
  • In depth knowledge of vocal pedagogy for middle school aged students
  • Accompaniment skills on the piano
  • Strong understanding of the middle school age group and mentality
