Starting in the 2006-2007 school year, Snare Drum and Traps auditions will now be combined to make a Battery Percussion audition. Now ALL of the Snare Drum & Traps students will be auditioning in BOTH areas.
This change will ensure that we select students who are able to perform on various percussion instruments within an ensemble, not exclusively Snare Drum or Traps. With band percussion parts continuing to change greatly over the years, the need is greater than ever to create an audition that allows more versatility in placing our best percussion students on the top percussion parts. This Battery Percussion audition, combining the Snare Drum and Traps scores, will accomplish this need.

What is different for the student?

The student will prepare for both the Snare Drum and Traps auditions. The audition will consist of:
Snare drum rudiments, solo, and sight reading.
Traps percussion audition studies, solo, and sight reading.

What is different for the Band Director?

The requirements are the same as they have been for years, only now the scores are combined. It is now required that Snare Drum and Traps players audition in both areas. The new combined audition results will be named Battery Percussion.

Who will be accepted into the All-State percussion sections?

A minimum number of 3 Battery Percussionists will be selected for the Wind Ensemble. A minimum number of 5 Battery Percussionists will be selected for the Symphonic Band. Additional Battery Percussionists may be accepted as instrumentation requirements dictate.

There is NO change to the Timpani or Mallets audition!
